Common Signs of Autism
Each individual with autism is unique and has his or her own neurodiversity challenges. However, there are some common signs that may indicate a child should have an autism evaluation. Some of these include:
Developmental
learning disability, speech delay, regression in development or speech skills
Cognitive
intense interest in a limited number of things, problems paying attention or completing tasks
Psychological
seeming lack of awareness of emotions of others, depression, anxiety
Sensory
sensitive to sound, textures, foods, temperatures, light
Behavioral
inappropriate social interaction (especially with peers), poor eye contact, impulsivity, repetitive movements or actions, self-harm, repetition of words or phrases (echolalia)
